What exactly is an "agent"?

An agent is software that pursues an outcome on its own — it senses live signals, reasons over full plant context, decides on the best action, and executes it inside your systems. Unlike a dashboard or a copilot, it doesn't wait for a human to read and click.

How is this different from the AI we already have?

Scripted automation follows fixed rules and breaks on exceptions. Generative AI writes summaries a human still has to act on. Agentic AI closes the loop — it takes the action — within guardrails you define.

How fast can we see value?
